Arkokabay news sources have learned that during the Christmas holiday, leaders of PFDJ in the UK were busy asking their members to show more public support to counter the mounting pressures on their party. To this end PFDJ Chairwoman in the UK – Ms. “Haregu Gual Qeshi” – and the Eritrean Ambassador to the UK – Mr. Tesfa-Michael Gerhatu – held a meeting in Holloway Road – London, on Bank-holiday Monday, December 28, 2009. According to the sources, the meeting was requested by Yemane Gebre-Ab – PFDJ’s Secretary for Political Affairs – during his visit to the UK last week. Gebremichael is reported to have held a private meeting with a handful of his UK based PFDJ confidantes whom he urged to do more to stop the dwindling public support his party is experiencing at present.

The Holloway Road meeting urged PFDJ members to do the follwing:-

–         organise door-to-door fundraising in order to appeal to Eritreans in the UK to make financial contributions to the PFDJ,

–         recruit members and organise propaganda activities to regain public confidence

–         organise demonstration in Geneva against the UN-SC Resolution 1907, which imposed sanctions on the Eritrean regime on Wednesday 23 December 2009.

It was reported that the Holloway Road meeting was attended by about 60 individuals out of an estimated base of about 600 in the UK. The few who attended the event expressed their unwillingness to be used in the PFDJ campaign and fund-raising activities. They have also posed serious questions on issues including the prospect for democracy, rule of law and respect for human rights. This left the pfdj leaders totally annoyed and disappointed realising that their continuous use of emotional and intimidating tactics was not working anymore, and that more and more PFDJ members are raising their voices against the tyrannical rule in Eritrea.
