The success of the Cairo demonstration- preliminary report


Farajat : CairoEritrean “Youth” is rallying demonstrations throughout the world to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Eritrean Independence Day. The “May 24” –  Eritrean Youth Movement, in the Egyptian capital Cairo, conducted on the 22nd of May popular and successful demonstration in front of Eritrean Embassy in Cairo. The demonstration was attended by hundreds of Eritreans composed of youth, women, men and children who shouted the demands of their legitimate rights.

 The protesters had clear and specific demands and they are:

1 – The immediate release of all prisoners of conscience.
2 – Provision of a decent and dignified living for the Eritrean people.
3 – Eritrea to be governed by a constitution that emanates from the will of the people.

The Cairo demonstration is of great importance because it occurs for the first time in the Middle East, specifically in the Arab Republic of Egypt, which emancipated itself from the Mubarak’s tyrannical regime. Many people expect the Cairo demonstration to have repercussions in the region and there is the possibility that the masses of young people in Sudan to follow and conduct similar demonstration which are currently underway.
The success of  the “defending  of the oppressed” demonstration organized by the May 24 – Eritrean Youth Movement, organized by the May 24 – Youth Group’s  initial reports confirm the success of the demonstration  which was attended by  hundreds of young people, women, men and children. These are our initial reports while waiting for the final full report.
