By Fesseha Nair

What is deep-rooted conflict?

Conflict, originating largely within state, which combines two powerful elements: potent identity-based factors, based on differences in race, religion, culture, language and so on, with perceived imbalances in the distribution of economic, political and social resoures. ( injustices) Assess the policy and state-making in Eritrea after independence EPLF/PFDJ?

Over the past months there has been an accelerated academic and policy debate over the issues of conflict in Eritrea. ( land ownership, enforced relocation, refugees in Sudan)

Ali Salim, Ahmed Raji, Ismail Omer Ali, Mohammed Ahmed, Hamid Salman have stuck more on the main issues and attitudes of the Eritrean political power sharing.  Thank you Ali Salim, Ahmed Raji, Ismail Omer Ali, Mohammed Ahmed and Hamid Salman for the articles that gave us insight on the nature of our deep –rooted conflict on various issues of conflict and the injustices that the Eritrean people expereince on their daily lives today.

The other side of debate article writers were Semere  T. Habtemariam, Amanuel Hidrat, Mengs TM who were more moderates and looking for the middle way, providing us a wide range of practical options for designing the most appropriate negotiation process and choosing the democratic structure most suited to the Eritrean situation.  Thank you, Semere , Mengs, and Amanuel Hidrat for the analysis of the conflict and rich descriptive understanding of the issues of conflict.

The third writers were on defensive and were accussing  Awate .com that has given opportunity to publish  such articles. Prejudices and attacks were hurled to Ali Salim because he has written what is in the ground, every one thinks and accuses one another sitting around their kitchen tables.

Those writers who were in defensive have come out on the day light and exposed themselves that they are still in their traditional approaches that were failed to address the issues of conflict and divert the reality as it is not present. Thank you, traditionalists and your failed approaches of hegemony imposing unsuitable solutions to our internal conflict.

Awate.com should be appreciated not discouraged by its devotion to host such debate articles and being a platform for all writers with different views and opinions.

The parameters of these debates have more often focused on the issues of identity and to building of a nation of multicultural Eriterea, focusing on their unique religious, ethnic, cultural and territorial statuses. Some Eritrean scholars argue the issues of identity are hinder for unity and democracy and encourage authoritarianism over democracy in Eritrea. (Supporters of the ruling party in Eritrea)

The Articles that were published in Awate .com engage and provide us to search methods of managing internal conflicts by building the process most suitable to all of the Eritrean people willing to live together in peace.

Such debates assist us to identify and design the basic building blocks of the process of conflict resolution. They offer us specific tools for breaking deadlocks and facilitate us to choose the most appropriate options to deal with the issues of conflict.

Many Eritrean scholars and politicians when raised the issues of conflict in Eritrea , they are called jihadists, racists, regionalists and many other nicknames. They are discriminated, marginalised, and stigmatised.  This method has made the internal conflict in Eritrea prevalent, so pervasive, durable and so insoluble.

The aim of this short article is to encourage our debate article writers in the internet by so doing assist us in constructing a new tool for conflict management and properly address all the aspects of the internal conflict in Eritrea.

As the title of the article, “ Dialogue in pursuit of conflict resolution in Eritrea, “ is that the debate going on between our internet writers in Awate.com encourages us to develop it at the level of dialogue bringing stakeholders together to discuss the opportunities and constraints for democratic method of resolving of our internal conflicts.

Conflict is as old as the age of man. It has existed all the time and will exist and it is not also necessarily negative. In Eritrea, we have still unmanaged conflict being buried under a false theory that the Eritrean people have no conflict, this is not true. We who advocate democracy should not be frightened to analyse the conflict issues and come to dialogue openly then we can find out tools of conflict management, conflict prevention and resolution.

I thank you again Awate.com , Awate Team and Negarit for their adherence and commitment to bring all stakeholders for debate and dialogue.
