Major conflict has risen between the two wings of University of Asmara

University of Asmara is facing major conflict between the two wings namely, accadmic affairs which is lead by Dr. Tadesse Mahari and the administration stuff which lead by Dr. Twelde Zerom due to salary increment proposed by the ministry of education that resulted into personal accusations. 

Although the main reason is not known for certain, observers express it as power struggle. By the end of Feb. 2005,the ministry of education circulated a short memorandum to announce a salary increment for the local acadamic staffs working in the University of Asmara and other Colleges in the country and excluded the administrative staff.

The memo was signed by the ministers of education and finance but failed to be effective due to the refusal of Dr. Twelde Zerom. In the reason he gave for refusal: Dr. Twelde accused Dr. Tadesse of conspiring in promote some academic staff to undeserved academic ranks an act that defies the rule of the university, according to his words. Dr. Tadesse on his part warned him not to intervene to his duties.  This event is taking place in the absence of Dr. Wolde-ab, who had to approve it for its implementation.

This rising conflict will have worst impacts as the University is almost in critical condition of all shortcomings

Due to poor academic, administrative and accommodation services the students of the university have been suffering since long. As a result they are forced to drop out and sick options abroad.
