The EPM’s Conference Legitimatize the Political and Organizational Programmes and Affirms the Existing Name of the Party

 The Eritrean Peoples Movement’s founding conference has formed a legislative and executive body of 33 and seven members respectively following its adoption the political and organizational programme of the party after transparent deliberations which took much time of the conference, according to some participants. Moreover, the conference has legalized the would be education system of the party’s doctrine. The education system, according to the source, underscores the compulsion and gratis of the primary education. The party’s conference has, furthermore, affirmed Arabic and Tigrinya as the official languages of Eritrea.  Moreover there was a proposal, by some groups, to change the name of the party into the “Eritrean Peoples’ Democratic Movement”, according to the source. However, the majority has insisted on the existing name for several reasons. The two most fundamental reasons for the continuation of the existing name were its widespread  amid Eritreans every where and on the preference of eschewing sheeny slogans on papers that might not be exercised practically on ground. The participants have implored on speeding up the unification process of the struggle mechanism of the Eritrean oppositions by adopting a national minimum programme. The conference has, furthermore, discussed the problems of the Eritrean refugees and passed on resolutions which the party believes would help it alleviate their problems.

In a related news, the Eritrean Refugees Association held yesterday a meeting to discuss ways of dealing with the UNCHR. Eritrean journalists Mohamed Taha Twekel and Moneer Krar of Farajat dot com took part in the meeting and shared with the participants ideas for improving the mechanism of handling the cases of refugees with the UNCHR. The participants have elected an executive body of 11 members to pave a ground for establishing a well- institutionalized association. It is recalled that the Eritrean refugees have had  an unprecedented demonstration some days back at which they submitted a petition to the UNCHR to draw its attention to their cases
