May5,2006(KHARTOUM)-The Eritrean Democratic Alliance has concluded its session of the third ordinary meeting of the alliance this morning in Khartoum, Sudan in the presence of a large number of the Eritrean media outlets, civil society organizations and the member states of the Sanna Assembly of Cooperation. The Chairman of the supreme leadership of the Eritrean Democratic Alliance Berhane Henjema said that the meeting has agreed upon conducting a comprehensive national conference where representatives of press people, academicians, and civil society organizations would participate as observers. He said that the Eritrean Democratic Alliance has passed onto the Executive Office the responsibility of preparing for the comprehensive national conference.

The Chairman of the Executive Office of the Eritrean Democratic Alliance Mr. Husien Khlaiefa said that the Eritrean Democratic Alliance has been able to institute and establish the EDA in the proper way it should be.

The concluding statement of the Eritrean Democratic Alliance pointed out that the Eritrean Democratic Alliance has not done much to fulfill the ambitions and hopes of the Eritrean people although it has had, to some degree, good achievements.

The Head of the Secretariat of the Sanna Cooperation Assembly Mr. Hibur Gebre Kidan urged the Eritrean political powers for holding a comprehensive national dialogue conference to help them set up widely supported and agreed upon work plan for the future of Eritrea. “Unless peace prevails in Eritrea; there would not be any stability in the region,” stressed Mr.Hibur. He substantiated the importance of conducting the comprehensive national conference in which representatives of all Eritrean sectors participate by highlighting some example of the Ethiopian political experiences on holding such conferences. He expressed his astonishment for the support the Eritrean regime is providing for some political actors that have clearly refused to recognize the independence of Eritrea. “The Ethiopian government will continue the support of the Eritrean opposition in order to make true democracy, justice and equality in Eritrea,” he emphasized. “You may think that Ethiopia will stop supporting the Eritrean opposition if it strikes peace with the ruling Eritrean regime. The Ethiopian government will never give up its support of the Eritrean democratic struggle. The Ethiopian government will continue its support until democracy, justice and equality prevails in Eritrea.”

Representative of the Yemen government said that the conduct of the comprehensive national conference in October would help the Secretariat of the Sanna Cooperation Assembly to raise a demand paper to the meeting of the heads of the governments of the Sanna Cooperation Assembly in December in order to double the support of the Eritrean opposition. He said that the support of the Eritrean opposition will definitely be doubled to speed up the democratic struggle if the Eritrean opposition shows seriousness and tangible results.

Representatives of the Sudanese government has also renewed the support of the Sudanese government for the democratic struggle of the Eritrean people; indicating that the peace agreements in various Sudanese fronts would not affect the support of his government for the Eritrean democratic struggle. “They (peace agreements) might have some influence; however they will not change the stance of the Sudanese government towards supporting the Eritrean democratic cause,” said the representative.

It is worth mentioning that the speeches of the member states of the Sanna Cooperation Assembly have been characterized with clarity in vision, frankness in attitudes and seriousness in cooperation. The speeches of the representatives of the Sanna Secretariat Cooperation’s speeches have been a sort of “a wake up call “for the Eritrean opposition to rescue the Eritrean people from falling into the abyss where the tyrant regime is leading them to.
