In the past few days, a boat carrying approximately 400 people most of whom were Eritreans was reported missing in the Mediterranean Sea. It is now reported that most of the passengers have drowned. This tragedy is the latest in the series of suffering inflicted upon the people of Eritrea, especially the youth, who have been fleeing their country in their thousands to escape from the open-ended conscription which has over time degenerated into modern form of slavery—forced labour.

We in Citizens for Democratic Rights in Eritrea (CDRiE) would like to extend our sincere condolences and sympathies to the families of the victims and our people. The sole culprit for this avoidable catastrophic loss of hundreds of innocent lives and the severe pain that has befallen their bereaved families is the Eritrean government which has been pursuing myopic policies forcing tens of thousands of our citizens to ‘vote with their feet.’

Ever since the deterioration of the Libyan situation, CDRiE has been calling on the relevant international organisations to shoulder their responsibilities and provide safety and security to those whose lives have been at risk. It is to be noted that Eritreans are particularly vulnerable owing to the fact that the Eritrean government has not made any attempt to evacuate its own citizens. In view of the fact that the ultimate cause of forced migration in the country is the wrong and oppressive policies pursued by the government, this comes as no surprise.

The Eritrean people invested their ‘flesh and blood’ to achieve their independence. Hence, they deserve a government that rules with their consent and respects their fundamental democratic and human rights. The unhappy scenarios that have been unfolding in the country are contrary to the promises of the liberation struggle and to every rational person’s expectation.  We therefore, call upon all Eritreans to cease their endless bickering and pre-occupation with extraneous internal feuds and work instead in unison for the establishment of a national democratic state governed by democratic principles and rule of law.

We also appeal to the international community to leave no stones unturned to alleviate the plight of all Eritreans, who are still facing an imminent risk to their lives both in Libya and in the Sinai desert in Egypt. In the absence of concerted international humanitarian actions, we may yet again be caught in another tragic incident. We also call upon the international community to bring pressure to bear on the government of Eritrea to bring to an end its repressive policies that are causing the displacement and suffering of the people.

አብ ዝሓለፉ መዓልታት፣ አስታት አርባዕተ ሚእቲ ሰባት፡ መብዛሕተኦም ከአ ኤርትራውያን፡ ዝሓዘት መርከብ አብ ማእከላይ ባሕሪ ከምዝጠሓለት ተሓቢሩ። እዚ ብጣዕሚ ዘሕዝን ተረኽቦ’ዚ መቐጸልታ ናይቲ አብ ል ዕሊ ህዝቢ ኤርትራ ብሓፈሻ፡ አብ መናእሰይ ኤርትራ ብፍላይ  ዝወርድ ዘሎ ግፍዒ እዩ። መናእሰይ ኤርትራ ብሰንኪ እቲ መንግስቲ ኤርትራ ዝኽተሎ ዘሎ ኢሰብአዊ ፖሊሲታትን ገደብ ዘብሉ ውትህድርናን፡ አደዳ ስደትን ሞትን ኮይኑ ይርከብ።

በዚ አጋጣሚ’ዚ፡ ንሕና፡ ማሕበር ዜጋታት ንዲሞክራስያዊ መሰላት አ ኤርትራ – ስድሪ፡ ንሕዝቢ ኤርትራ ብሓፈሻ፡ ንስድራቤታት መወቲ ከአ ብፍላይ፡ ሓዘንና እናገለጽና ጽንዓት ይሃብኩም ንብል። ሓላፍነት ናይዞም ብአማእት ዝቑጸሩ ህይወቶ ዝሰአኑን፡ አብ ቤተሰቦም ዝወረደ ስቓይን፡ ብቐዳምነት ናይ መንግስቲ ኤርትራ ምዃኑ ዘጠራጥር የልቦን። እቲ ዝተኸተሎ ዘሎ ግጉይ ፖሊሲታት ከ ቀንዲ ክኽንያት ናትዪ ዝወርድ ዘሎ አደራዕ እዩ።

አብ ህገረ ሊብያ ሰፊኑ ዘሎ ኩነታት ካብ ዝጅምር አትሒዙ፡ ማሕበርና ንዝተፈላለዮ አህጉራዊ ማሕበራትን ትካላትን መተሓሳቢ ካብ ምስዳድን ሓላፍነቶም ከአ ክስከሙን ህይወት ናይቶም አብ ሊብያን ምድረበዳ ሲናይን ንሓደጋ ተጋሊጾም ዘለውን ንምድሓን ዝከአሎም ክጽዕሩን መጸዋዕታ ካብ ምቕራብ ዓዲ አይወዓለትን። እዚ ኸአ ኤርትራውያን ከአ እቶም ዝያዳ ንሃደጋ ዝተጋለጹ ስለዝኾኑ እዩ። እቲ ምንታይ፡ መንግስቲ ኤርትራ ከምቶም ካል ኦት መንግስታት፡ ህይወት ዜጋታቱ ንምድሓን ዝገበሮ ፈተነ ስለዘየለን ትጽቢትውን ስለዘእይግበረሉን እዮ። ቀንዲ ምኽንያት ናይ ካብ ሃገሮም ምውጻእን፡ ነዚ ኹሉ ሓደጋታት ቀላይን ምድረበዳን ዘስዕቦ ዘሎ ሞትን ህልቀትን ምግላጾምን ከአ ግጉይ ፖሊሲታቱ ስለዝኾነ ዘገርም የብሉን።

እቲ ም እንቲ ሃገራዊ ናጽነቱ ከቢድ ዋጋ ዝኸፈለ ህዝቢ ኤርትራ፡ አብ ነሳ ሃገሩ አስተርሒዩ ብሰላም ክነብር ምተገበአ። ኮይኑ ግን እነሆ ገና አደዳ ሞትን ስቓይን ኮኑ ይርከብ። በዚ አጋጣሚዚ ኸአ ኮሎም ኤርትራውያን፡ ካልአዊ ፍልልያት አብ ጎድኒ ገዲፎም፡ አብ ኤርትራ ብሕጊ ዝግዛእን መሰል ወድ ሰብ ከአ ዘኽብርን መንግስቲ ንምትካል ሓድነቶም አትሪሮም ክቃለሱ ንጽውዕ።

ኸም ኡውን ማሕበረሰብ ዓለም ነቶም ሕጂውን አብ ሓደጋ ዝርከቡ ኤርትራውያን ህይወቶም ንድሓን ክጽዕርን ተመሳሳሊ ኩነታት እንደገና ከፍጠር ሓላፍነቱ ብአጋ ክሽከም ንጽውዕ። ከም ኡውን መንግስቲ ኤርትራ ነቲ ጠንቂ ግህሰት መሰል ወድሰብ ዝኾነ ፖሊሲታቱ ክቕይር ተጽዕኖ ክግበረሉ መጸዋዕታ ንገብር።
