2nd Symposium on Eritrean Human Rights & Refugee Crisis,

Dear Eritrean National Commission for Democratic Change,
 
After a national tragedy of immense proportion where almost 400 Eritrean were drowned in the Mediterranean we cannot celebrate this year Independence Day in the usual way. We commend that this day be focused on contemplation of what price Eritreans are paying under this tyranny and a day of commitment for each of us to make a solemn commitment to stand firm in solidarity with our people and struggle to bring a closure to the darkness that has descended on Eritrea and the Eritrean people. 
 
It is with this in mind that we invite your institution to participate as Keynote Speaker in the 2nd Symposium on Eritrean Human Rights & Refugee Crisis to be held at Hilton Alexandria Convention Center, Virginia on May 28, 2011.  
 
The symposium will be hosted by Eritrean Global Solidarity and co-organized by 14 sister organization listed below.
 
The theme of the symposium is “The Journey of Hope Amidst Eritrean Refugee Crisis: their predicament & courage and our responses.”
 
The symposium will bring together Eritrean Refugees and human rights advocates and will be addressed by prominent speakers who will engage through their interactive session to bring forth relevant Eritrean Refugee Crisis issues.
 The expected outcome of the symposium is to develop guidance on Eritrean human rights & Refugee Crisis with the aim of adopting a final Declaration and Plan of Action.
 
We strongly encourage the Eritrean youth in the Diaspora to step up and participate on these Symposium and claim their historic role as leaders of the struggle for rule of law, democracy and justice.
The main conclusions of the Conference will be reflected and incorporated into the Declaration of Alexandria to be considered and adopted by the participants at the symposium.
