Report: Fire at refugee camp near Tunisia’s border with Libya kills 4 Eritreans

By The Associated Press

TUNIS, Tunisia — A hospital official says four Eritreans have died after a fire spread through a refugee camp on the border with Libya.

Tunisia’s official news agency TAP said Sunday the four died after flames swept through the Choucha refugee camp near the Ras Jedir border crossing to Libya.

Around 3,500 refugees, mainly from Eritrea, Somalia and Ivory Coast, live in the camp after fleeing the fighting in Libya two months ago.

TAP reported that the fire destroyed 21 of the camp’s tents, and that strong winds spread the flames.
