Sudan Expels United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator and the Country Director of the United Nations Development Program

Washington, DC – The United States deplores the decision by the Government of Sudan to expel two senior United Nations officials and calls on the Government of Sudan to reverse the decision. The expulsions of Mr. Ali Al-Za’tari and Ms. Yvonne Helle, two highly regarded UN professionals, are detrimental to Sudan’s relations with the international community and to the protection and well-being of the people of Sudan.

The United States will continue to press the Government of Sudan to desist from actions that hinder the United Nations’ ability to meet its humanitarian and security objectives in Sudan.
