Eritrean Islamic Party intensifies its contacts

March 31,2006(KHARTOUM)-The Eritrean Islamic Party for Justice and Development has intensified its activities over the last weeks through touring various countries in different parts of the world as well as by participating in various regional conferences. A delegation of the party has recently concluded a tour in Malaysia, some countries in the Gulf region and Africa.

Head of the External Relations Office of the party held last week meetings with the Ethiopian government officials about enhancing cooperation between the party and the Ethiopian government in areas of mutual concerns.

The head of the External Relations Office of the party told GIC that he had come to Ethiopia to discuss ways of establishing direct relations with the Ethiopian government. “The visit which went on for a whole week was successful,” he said.

He expressed his deep concern, after visiting the Eritrean refugees’ camps in Ethiopia, about the miserable life of the Eritrean refugees in Ethiopia and called on the international community to respond positively to the suffering of the Eritrean refugees.

Furthermore he said that the Eritrean Islamic party for Justice and Development works to maintain strong relations with all Eritrean political actors including its work to promote the Eritrean Democratic Alliance. “I have had meetings with Eritrean opposition figures and we discussed ways of promoting the EDA as well as strengthening bilateral relations,” he added.

The Eritrean Islamic Party for Justice and Development has had a remarkable participation in the last conference of the Arab parties which was held in Damascus, Syria.
